Shatto Dairy, Jamesport, Far West (6/24/2016) Ephraim's 1st birthday

Our Day without the Shirleys. They had to head for home.

First we visited the Shatto Dairy.

They specialize in many flavors of milk.

We arrived during a tour and so those who wanted
to taste the various flavors were welcome to.

This is the dairy's fluffy old collie.

Malea thought she needed a dog like this one.

This dairy sold more than just milk!

They sold expensive, but very delicious ice cream sandwiches.

This is their cool old milk delivery truck.
Are you surprised to see Dad looking under the hood?

Next we headed for Jamesport, Missouri, an Amish Community.
This is how we knew we were getting close.

This is how we knew we had arrived.
I have to say it was not the pure, pristine civilization
I had envisioned.  It reminded me a whole lot of Eureka, Utah.

The museum was interesting, but cluttered, a bit unkempt,
and we hadto turn a couple of calendars and posters
around to protect the children's innocence.

We did get some yummy selections from the bakery.

We had to drive out of town to find a more stereo-typed Amish area.

Jake called us from his ship while we were here. :)
It appeared that families  maintained their own cemetery.
We noticed that this group had electricity and power implements.
We later learned that this group had been shunned by the
more orthodox members, but Rachel was a lovely lady and it
was clear they are good people.

We then stopped at an Amish store.
They are amazing craftsmen!

Dad inspects the loom they use for the rugs they sell.
Dad and one of his retirement dream projects.
This is an Amish bird house.

Our next stop of the Far West Temple Site.

There is a memorial that lists all the doctrines received at Far West.

This is an example of what was revealed there.

The cornerstones for a future temple still remain as dedicated by Joseph Smith.
Each sandstone cornerstone is encased in glass.

Grandma, Grandpa, Ben, Jessica, Jason, Amy and Anna in front.
Anna                              Ben is a climber.

Anna and Amy  fit through the fence more easily than Ben.
Some of the trees were dangerous to climb.
