Carpet Cleaning Day :)

11/2/13:  Once the kitchen project was done and the dust had settled, I made 

arrangements with Uncle Blake to come a professionally clean some 

carpet on Nov. 2nd!   He works for Austin Kenison.  He came down 

early and had breakfast with us and then he got to work!

It took him about an hour to do the stairs. living room, front entry, hall and

 the traffic areas in the computer room and Andrea's bed room.  (No need to 

do ours as Dad, Laura and Janna gave me new carpet for that room for my birthday:).

Uncle Blake strung the hose through the front door and...fired up
all the high tech stuff on board.  The carpet was two or three shades lighter

when he got through.  The total bill was $75, and it was worth every penny!

After Blake left, Dad and I headed north.  He checked out the
Wells Fargo Wagon while I grabbed a few things in COSCO.  Then we
met Andrea at Sam's and took her with us to the Hale Theater production
of "In The Heights."  It had lots of amazing singing and Latin Dancing.
 It also had an almost universal message.

As you can see, Grandma Anna joined us.  She had been to 

a baptism in Tooele with Uncle Alan and Aunt Sheree. (One of 

Scott and Regina's children.)   They dropped Grandma off at the 

theater on their return trip.  The timing was perfect! 

Malea's Birthday Party

Malea and Colton came down from BYU-I for the annual

 Kenison Temple trip in honor of Grandma Anna's birthday.  

This year it was held on Oct. 25th. (Grandpa Kenison and Ammon's Birthday) 

They missed the session because of BYU football game traffic, but we in the 

Celestial Room as we entered and there for the dinner afterwards.

Even though Malea's birthday had already passed, we 

celebrated it again.  Dad was in charge of lighting the candles.  

He's had lots of practice. (As well as some fire management training!)

Malea made a wish (which she kept a secret) and blew out the candles.  

We were afraid the smoke alarm would go off, but luckily it didn't.

This was the pumpkin crunch cake that Malea shared the recipe 

with us.  It was pretty yummy! (Especially with vanilla ice cream.)

It was a Sunday, so our activities were planned
accordingly.  Andrea and Malea made little bracelets for an
upcoming baby shower for one of Colton's relatives.

 

 They turned out very cute and Colton's cousin loved them. 

Bus Safety Day

Bus Safety Day was on Oct. 25th for Red Cliff's Elementary.  It started 

with an excellent power point in the gym.  Jessica Kenison sponsored

 the occasion and produced the power point as part of her Sterling Scholar project. 

The whole event was well organized and the power point could be marketed!

These boys were part of the brute squad assigned to help with evacuation practice.

Two were assigned to each bus, but I got the cutest one! :)

 Every kid in the school exited one of the buses through

 the emergency side door that day. This shows current technique.  

The students grab a fist as they sit and slide out the door. 

 

Once out of the bus, students meet in a chosen location, at least 60 feet 

from the bus. Drivers are required to have an evacuation practice twice a year. 

 We all did it together this year.  It worked out really well...informative and fun.

Final wood haul: A Trio is better than a duo!

For our final wood haul of the season, we waited for 

a day Andrea was home.  You will soon see why! :)

The first tree was down so fast I  missed it.  Dad 

pulled it to a location nearer the truck.

My job was to load the pieces onto the trailer.

Andrea decided she wants to be a super high
performance model with chain saw skills!

She is a wood sawing Kahuna!

 Dad and Andrea together made short work of each tree.

If I got behind she'd help me out!

No matter what, she is good for comic relief!

These came from the HUGE tree Dad was working on.

The trailer is getting fuller and fuller.  But not full enough!

We took a water break and Dad is pointing
out his next target across the wash.

After it was down, Andrea tried to get it to budge.  It wouldn't! 
But with some help from the truck, you can see it is spanning the wash.  

Andrea found a log she could ride!

Hail the conquering TRIO! 

All I can say is---- this wood haul was faster, more productive
and definitely more fun.  Thanks Andrea!

 

 Andrea backed Dad in and we headed home 

with enough wood to due us this winter.

BUS TAG!

This is a cautionary tale that begins beautifully and ends less so!

Some images may be disturbing to sensitive viewers.  Digression advised!

Here is my bus at the Sugar House Park on 2100 S in SLC, on Oct. 23rd

It is a perfect day for the State Cross Country Meet.

This is the view from the hill I was parked above.  

It shows both the starting line and the finish line. 

There were hundreds of buses and thousands of people.

The varsity boys are off! 

Sugar House park is very beautiful and you may be
wondering why I had my camera. It is because
as I was packing to leave, I had the thought,  

"Take your camera."  So I did!

ou guessed it, he is from Rocky Ridge.

The Stage is set! Sugar House park has a one way street around it.  

It is lined on the right side by a nice parking lane.  What do you suppose would 

happen if you park 30 yards beyond the end of the parking lane on the inside

 of a 90 degree turn, with a concrete wall on the outside of that turn?

You invite a  BUS TAG game and you will get your eye popped out! 

Yep!  This is the license plate of the very nice guy who did as described.

It scratched the paint on my bus, but we believe it can be buffed out.

While I was taking to Paul Messersmith, the Park City bus hit the same car.  

He made contact with the rear view mirror and warped the door.  It would have 

taken out the entire quarter panel, but by then a group had gathered and 

we stopped him.  He was able to back up and get around the car.

The car owners buddy was parked right behind him and he started stopping

 every bus  to warn them of the potential hazards of BUS TAG!

This shows the clearance of those who were forewarned! 

 

  This is the officer who responded to the accident.  No one was cited.  Because the curb was not painted red and there was no sign stating "NO PARKING BEYOND THIS POINT" the driver was not liable.  In other words,  the driver was not prohibited by law to park in such a precarious location.  On the other hand, because the car was so unwisely parked and passage so difficult for buses, the District was not liable either.  It became clear why I had my camera.  You should 

have seen Paul's smile when I handed him nine photos with labels on the back! 

Moral of the story: If you play BUS TAG, you could lose an EYE!
