Our 40th Wedding anniversary fell on State Track at BYU. Dad and I have learned
to be
an opportunist, so we simply planned a full day of celebrating around my driving
schedule---- which didn’t hamper us much. It
seems almost sinful to get paid to celebrate.
Thanks to Laura, we couldn't help but remember and visualize what happened 40 years
ago. The video from the family the night before was a perfect prelude to our day.

Dad gave me a dozen red roses!
After I unloaded the
kids, we went straight to the Provo
Temple.
The roses were all in bloom and
they were breath
taking with heavy dew still clinging to them.
The whole day came together in a way that felt divinely orchestrated for
literally months. First we discovered that two of the names Andrea found doing
family history work were a married couple who had none of their work done. Amazingly, our ward’s youth did baptisms for
the dead the evening before and completed those ordinances for us. :) I did
the initiatory for Amanda C. Jennings and Angelina Whaley and Dad did the initiatory for John Adarian Walsh and their son,
Joseph Kaufman Walsh. As we went into the chapel, we had only been
seated for a minute, when the worker asked us to be the witness couple. I was proxy for Amanda and Dad was proxy for John on the endowment
session. Then we
immediately went to the sealing office and had Amanda and John sealed together. They now share our anniversary and our temple.
After the temple, we used the Olive Garden gift card Lisa
Butler, Tyler Wilkin’s sister, gave us
for helping rescue and piece out their car that broke down months ago. It was some of the best salmon I have ever
tasted. Then we went to the theater and
watched the new “Jungle Book.” We had
gift cards
to cover the tickets and popcorn from Ash Grove. Dad got those for his birthday. It was a fun show, although much more intense
than the first. Finally, we went out for ice
cream.
That evening we came home and lived happily ever after!
