SEPTEMBER AT A GLANCE
Sept
1:
Darrel and I drove to see three possible homes for Scott and Janna today north
of Salt Lake. They made an offer on one but were out bid by someone willing to
pay $60,000 more than the asking price.
The house market in Utah this year is so inflated!
Sept.
3: Dad had his hip surgery today. Doctors lined the old ball and socket with
mesh to hold it in place. The procedure
went well, and Dad is doing well.
Sept
5-8:
Darrel and I flew to Mesa to be a part of Seth’s blessing and visit with the
Wilkins for a few days. Jessica was
still there helping wherever needed following Seth’s birth. It was a delightful visit, but way too hot
for my comfort.
A week of miracles: (Sept.
6-12) Darrel and I
were in Mesa for Seth’s blessing on Sept. 6th, but we joined with
our stake in fasting for rain and for the pandemic to be lifted. We spent Labor Day with Katie’s family while
the Silotti’s and BYU Grandchildren partied at our house. Darrel and I put up the blow-up slide that
Karrie purchased in North Carolina years ago.
Randel took it with him to Arizona recently and dropped it off. The kids had a great time for hours. The water in Mesa comes out of the tap much
warmer than the 60 degrees here in Utah.
We also watched the new Mulan that was released on Disney Plus with a
viewer fee. Theaters are still suffering with the effects of the pandemic
regulations and this was somewhat of an experiment.
On
Tuesday morning, (Sept. 8) we learned that it had already rained and snowed in
Utah. The snow in the mountains helped
contain the fire in Mapleton and Santaquin Canyons. Frost was predicted that
night. We flew home and readied all
that we hoped to save from the frost. It
was 41 degrees with no cloud cover when we went to bed. When we awoke we were amazed that it had not
frozen. The temperature only dropped 6
degrees overnight! With snow in the
foothills, that was unheard of for our area.
We felt the prayers of the good farmers around us had been answered with
a miracle saving their corn crop and we benefited from that blessing.
Sept. 10: Scott and Janna went under contract to
buy the home of their dreams in Lehi, Utah.
The parameters of their home search should have blocked the home they
are currently trying to buy. The home
was being sold by the children of the couple who owned it. They were willing to take $60,000 less than
list price because Scott and Janna could not do any more, even though another
bidder was in the mix. This home
literally has everything they have ever thought they wanted in their future
home. I believe their faithful service
to the Lord through Scott’s work and their service in the church are the basis
of the Divine influence that led them to this home. We all feel so grateful and excited even
though it represents a lot of cleaning and much needed painting and new carpet.
We
brought Dad home from the rehab center today.
He had only been there for four days, but he was so unhappy there that
his mental state was distressing to us all.
With COVID restrictions, he was alone in his room with no visitors. He was never taken to the physical therapy
room nor allowed to mingle with other residents. Even the minimal staff was hesitant to touch
him or do more than the bare necessities.
He had no recliner and was spending most of the day in bed which
resulted in him sleeping a lot. Kent got
the ball rolling and Mary picked him up.
I was on a bus run to ALA. Darrel followed in the car so we could do a
little shopping and see Dad. It turned
out to be a tender mercy all the way around.
Sept.
11: I had a DOT
physical today that I passed with flying colors. I am cleared for two years. At which point I will likely let my CDL go.
September
12: We left early to watch Haylie’s soccer game,
only to learn that Dallin had a football game and Hayden had a soccer game,
too. We were able to support all three
in one trip north and in one day. We
felt that was a tender mercy.
September
13: Today was Laura’s
43rd birthday and Andrew’s 18th. Fern Neva Potter was blessed in San
Antonio. We joined through
technology.
September
14: Janna flew in from Florida today to see the
house they are under contract to buy in Lehi, Utah. Darrel picked her up from the airport while I
took the CDL written test to renew my Driver’s License. I meet them at 1378 Fox Borough Drive in Lehi
afterwards. Their home is lovely but
will require much cleaning and some TLC. We returned on the 15th to
begin a list of projects so they can prioritize. It was such a blessing to have
her all to ourselves for a few days. It
was a treat we will long remember.
September
16: Janna flew back to Florida today. Darrel took her back to the airport. The new Delta Terminal at the SL airport
opened yesterday, so she flew out of it and reported it to be a very fancy
place. It’s been under construction for
years, so it’s good to have it up and running.
Sept.
18: Darrel and I went
to a political meeting this morning for Spencer Cox. His running mate, Deidre Henderson was there
to represent him and answer questions.
She is the best part of his campaign.
Today was my parent’s 68th wedding anniversary!
Sept.
27: Today was the last
day authorized to have the sacrament in our home. We’ve enjoyed so many beautiful Sundays while
we were able to hold services at home.
We invited Lionel and Linda Suazo down to make it more memorable and
extra special realizing that this sacred opportunity is over for the time
being.
Sept. 30: The Kenison Farm
finally sold today. Gratefully the new
owners are the Blackhursts from Nephi. It was a long a waited day for Alan and
Dale who needed to retire years ago.
Marvin and Gordon will continue to manage the farm for the new owners.
