SJ had a good birthday.

So I got the BIG bat Jake made and Steve stepped up to bat.
I wish I had made a video out what followed. The pinata looked like
it exploded. We had candy, coins and balls on the roof, on the drive way
and even a little on the front lawn. It was awesome.

FEBRUARY HOMESTEAD NEWS---2016
Dad: February started with a BIG snow storm. I spent about 1 ½ hours before Mom left on
the bus so she could get it down to the end of our lane. She was on her own from there. (Mom insert: I was
actually pushing the snow down Powell Lane with the bumper of the bus. Some of the drifts were so BIG that we broke
through them like the Dukes of Hazard.
It was definitely not a record trip to school that day.) I spent another 4 hours pushing the yard out
during the day so she could turn the bus around when she got home. During that cold spell I started re-loading
some shells for target practice for when Ben comes this summer. I’ve had the
chance to spend some time with Grandma Anna.
We spend a lot of time talking about the children and
grandchildren. She loves it when we
face-time with some of you while we are together. We also listen to a conference talk together
during breakfast. One Saturday I got to
take her to the adult session of her stake conference. I even took her to get her hair done and to
do some shopping. While Mom and I were
in Florida, Grandma decided she didn’t need someone there every night. She has got some of her strength and confidence
back and is driving again. She took
herself to the temple to do some initiatory work. I still check with her and visit her every
week. We like to go over Andrea’s new
posts together. I have really enjoyed
spending time with her and I look forward to my visits. I was a little sad that they have pulled back
so the visits aren’t as long or regular.
Our trip to Florida was way too short, but I enjoyed the time with Janna
and the grandchildren. My fishing trip
with Scott wasn’t too successful because it was a very windy day, but lunch was
good. I enjoyed spending a day with the
Hursts visiting the manatee and the Ponce Inlet Light House. I also enjoyed going to the country fair. I bet
on the pig races and won a little toy pig on one of the rounds. Ammon loved it so
much that I had to leave it in Florida. There were six pigs in each round and
they had entertaining names such as: Beyonce Baconator, Lady Hog-ga, Britney Spear-ribs,
Barach-of-ribs Obama, Hoggary Clinton
and Donald Rump Roast. All in all, it
was a great trip! At the end of the month I was released as First Assistant in
the High Priest’s group to Terry Stephenson and then called as the First
Assistant to Steve Peterson. That all happened on Feb. 28th. I have enjoyed the challenge to make sure Mom
and Bethany got to the temple at least two times each month. That made it so I went 4 times.
Mom: Even though there was an extra day in
February, it felt awfully short looking back on it. It came in like a lion and out like a lamb.
Beth gave me a perm. It was her first and she did a great job. J We also took a family day trip to the BYU art
museum to see the art of Norman Rockwell.
Beth enjoyed it most because artists just see more than the rest of us. The Wilkins met us for lunch. It was so cold we migrated to the Wilk
Center. During lunch time with school in
session that was memorable.
Katie
provided us with a couple of nights at volley ball games. That is always fun even if they don’t
win. She also gave me a book that has
been instructive, insightful and just plain inspirational. She has been so in tune with our situation
and just what we need. (Thanks Katie) We all attended Andrew Robinson’s 50th
birthday party. He and his family have
been a great blessing to our family and it is hard to think that he is that
old. He still seems like a kid to me which means I’m getting old.
Our trip to Florida was the highlight of the month. It came at a great time for me. I wouldn’t recommend the overnight flight, but it was sure worth the time with Scott and Janna and the kids. It was wonderful to be there on Valentine’s and participate in Samuel’s blessing. Scott was voice to an extra-ordinary blessing. I enjoyed the time chatting with Janna and baking together. I won’t brag about the pumpkin pie I made while there, but the flop was graciously received. (Thanks Taylor! ) I loved game night with the kids and the morning at the beach. The tide was high and the surf was up. The huge waves crashing in were exciting and energizing. I also enjoyed feeding and meeting the missionaries there. I felt the Elder’s message was just for me.
It was good to be back for
Sarah-Jane’s birthday. We had a lovely
T-party for lunch and got to see her open her gifts. Both kids were sick this month for nearly a
week each, but Bethany is a trooper and things are going well here.
I
had a “first” in my bus this month. I
had a flat tire coming back through the construction on our way home from an
activity run to SLC. Mr. Nielson was the adviser. We had to pull over and wait
for a service truck to come and change both back dual tires on the right
side. I guess if one goes flat, both
have to be replaced. It was super cold
and a real adventure.
