Grandpa's FHE

Grandpa and I take turns planning FHE.  On May 11, 

Grandpa decided we were going toride up Deep Canyon 

on the 4-wheeler, drove over the top and down into Chicken Creek.

 A crew recently took a machine up Deep Canyon that gobbles up the 

trees and brush next to the road to keep it open.  It doesn't do a beautiful job.

Grandpa checks equipment one last time before we....

 ...plunged through the creek and headed up ward.

 We saw Indian Paint Brush....

 and what looked like Brigham Brush as tall as a tree! 

 Once we were at the summit, Grandpa looked back to see where we had been.

 We had climbed a lot of steep rocky slopes, but....

 ...the view was well worth it!

 Once on top we found a variety of terrain.

 We found a little spring fed pond with fences and a pasture.

 We forged through thick Juniper forests.

We saw three groups of deer, but this one was the only one 

that waited for  me to get my camera out and focused. 

 We found a white sand dune on the skyline. 

 We also got a gorgeous view of Mt. Nebo.

 We ran into a BIG, very mossy watering trough.  It was also 

fed by a spring.  Little springs were pretty frequent on top.

 Not certain which road to take, we took a wrong turn or two and
 ended up having to open an old trail that was posted, "closed." 
We could see where we needed to be, we had less than an
hour of sun light left, and it was getting cold.  The road 

in the distance is the Chicken Creek road. 
We came out about a 1/2 mile above Reddix. 

 On the way down we inspected this Eagle's project.  Casey Wood was the Eagle Scout. 

 Meanwhile...after 3 1/2 hours we were back at the pump!

 How much does that much fun cost?     $3.61!
