Old Capital Arts Festival Field Trip

Fillmore was the first State Capitol of Utah. Every year there is a First Captiol 

Arts Festival there.  I got the bus run again and talked Dad into coming along.

This is an Alpaca. 

This guy raises them and makes yarn from their wool.

This guy did a bird show. He was a real entertainer.

All the trades of yesteryear were present: Blacksmith!

Trapper and fur trader.

This guy is the only licensed cooper this side of the Mississippi.

He makes water proof wooden buckets.

I think Dad could do this now that he watched the demo.

This guy is a gun collector, mussel load hunter, and gun smith.

This fellow demonstrated Native American dancing and what it represents.

This elder man is a puppeteer and balloon sculptor. He patented

 a mechanism that turns DI stuffed animals into puppets.  The kids loved him. 

The gun show was just ramping up, and this was my favorite.  It made me smile!

We ran into Robert, one of Uncle Blaines sons.  His display was bigger than last year.

He was commissioned to build and odometer like those used on wagons and handcarts.

He said it was a challenge, but this design is very accurate.

This had nothing to do with the Activity Run.
These are the kind of fish Dad 

dreams of catching.  If you want to hear

A Day of sports with the Mellors

September 12, 2015 was our Mellor sports day!

 First we went to Hayden's soccer game. 

 Can you find Hayden?  He is number 10---red.

 These two boys made all the goalies.  Hayden fed number the ball and he'd score.

NEXT WE WENT TO DALLIN'S SOCCER GAME.

 As you can see, he started out playing goalie.

 After a quick drink, he changed positions.

Dallin played a great game.

Next Grandpa and I went out to lunch and to the Hale Theater
to see the Diary of Anne Frank.

ON OF OUR WAY HOME WE STOPPED IN SPANISH 
FORK FOR TYLER'S FOOT BALL GAME.

Tyler is number 25. 

He is on the kick-off team.

That is because he is fast and aggressive.

A conflict escalated as the game progressed. 
Who was the aggressor?  25 or 63?
On the next kick-off this moved to fist-a-cuffs
and both were kicked out of the game.  OOPS!

We spent the day like an old 
retired couple!  We loved it!!!

9/11 at the Hogle Zoo with the Wilkins

The Wilkins booked us for a date at the Hogle Zoo on
Sept. 11th weeks before it arrived.

 It turned out to be better than first planned, because Bethany came with 

Sarah-Janna and Little Wil.  It was Little Wil's one month birthday!  Brenda 

came and brought Haylie and Kaleb, too.  We had all our Utah girls!  

Tyler's sister, Lisa and her husband, Levi, were there as well.

 We saw this giraffe on our train ride. He is the oldest animal living at the zoo.

These animals live along the railway.

The real animals aren't the main attraction these days. 
 It is all about DINOSAURS!

 Kaleb and Sarah-Jane climbed aboard one of the nice dinosaurs.

 Then Haylie and Luke took a turn.

 Most of the dinosaurs move and make scary noises.

 This is Kaleb face to face with a T-Rex! 

 We knew Bethany was a horse whisperer, but now
we know she is a Dino-whisperer, too.

 Grandpa nearly lost a hand to this bird dinosaur! 

 These cute baby dinosaurs moved and made the cutest noises.

These dinosaurs spit water and roared.

NOW FOR A FEW FAVORITE REAL ANIMALS.

 Rhinos are HUGE!

 I was glad Kaleb and Sarah-Jane rode this one instead.

Luke was fascinated by the sea lions.

We took a break for lunch. 

 Then we went straight to the bird show.

 This big bird decided he didn't want to go back behind

the scene and frustrated the trainers for quite a while. 

 We always suspected that Grandpa had long arms.

 What?  Grandma is the size of an adult male gorilla!  Yikes!!!
